Giovanni De Biasi did not mince his words during his press conference after the match against the Red Devils. It could cost Azerbaijan’s coach his job.
After their 3-0 win against Sweden, we thought Azerbaijan came to Brussels with nothing to lose. However, the 5-0 defeat to the Red Devils left its mark: “I have never worked with such stupid journalists,” ranted Giovanni De Biasi, Azerbaijan’s coach.
De Biasi also stated that he “couldn’t do more with some Fiat 500s than with Ferraris”, referring to the difference in talent between his players and that of the Belgian national team. He lashed out at the journalists again afterwards. “If I leave the national team, I won’t miss the journalists.”
These are the words of a man who knows he is on his way to the exit. According to local journalists, the coach could be pushed to the exit as a result of his comments. The general secretary of the Azerbaijani Football Association immediately apologized to the journalists present on behalf of the association.
