Roberto Martinez is doing fantastic for Portugal. The Portuguese play attacking football and completed a flawless run in the European Championship qualifying campaign. The Spanish coach of Portugal was afterwards lyrical for one of his absolute trendsetters.
Martinez was criticized in Portugal, and also in Belgium, for calling up Cristiano Ronaldo after the failed World Cup. The coach was right, because CR7 is still the best attacker in the country. He proved that in recent months.
Ronaldo shines for Portugal
Ronaldo scored 10 times in 10 matches and also provided 2 assists. Portugal achieved a 30 out of 30 and they scored a total of 36 times. They also conceded barely 2 goals. Only Slovakia scored against them.
Martinez praised Ronaldo afterwards. CR7 is and remains a phenomenon. The praise of the former coach of the Red Devils is therefore justified.
Praise for Martinez
“It is difficult for me to explain how a player who is 38 years old and has played more international matches than anyone in the world, still has the hunger of an eighteen-year-old. That is contagious in the dressing room. He is an example for everyone, it’s great to have a player with his experience,” he stated.
Bruno Fernandes also praised Martinez. “He has brought new ideas, that works and we are happy. Now we have to look ahead. It was not all bad under Mister Fernando and it is not perfect now either. We know that perfection does not exist, but we want to approach perfection .”
