The council chamber in Antwerp has decided to place former radio presenter Sven Pichal (44) under electronic surveillance. He will therefore continue to be arrested, but will be allowed to leave prison with an ankle bracelet. This is what the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office says, which will not appeal against that decision.

Pichal was arrested at the end of August on suspicion of possessing and distributing images of child sexual abuse. He then resigned with immediate effect from the VRT, where he presented ‘De Inspecteur’ on Radio 2, among other things. Two of his co-suspects – actor RDB (34) and BD (35) – are also still arrested.
Pichal is said to have received the images of child abuse from Reuben DB (34), a man active in the musical circuit. Reuben DB had exchanged the images via the chat channel Bullchat, which is popular among gays. Reuben DB was arrested first, on August 18. Sven Pichal a week later, on August 25.
