The evening rush hour around Antwerp will be extremely difficult on Monday evening. Especially for those who have to go to Kempen or Limburg via the E313, there is a northerly repair at the Pullebrug, just past Massenhoven. The works would certainly last until after midnight. “You lose at least an hour and a half from Antwerp East, possibly more,” warns Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Center.
On the Pullebrug, which runs over the Netekanaal just past Massenhoven, a profile of a bridge joint has come loose. “That part of the road was immediately closed,” says Stefanie Nagels of the Roads and Traffic Agency (AWV). “Our people are now on site for emergency repairs.”
The broken profile will be removed and the trench will be temporarily filled with a special mortar. “It then needs about two hours of curing time,” says Nagels. The AWV expects that the track will only be passable again after midnight, but before the morning rush hour tomorrow.
There are only two lanes at the emergency repair site, so only one is now available towards the Kempen and Limburg. The consequences for the evening rush hour are obvious. “From Antwerp East, traffic is virtually at a standstill,” says Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Center. “From there you should count at least an hour and a half. Anyone who comes from further away will have to pay quite a bit extra.”
