LOOK. Jambon confirms to VTM NEWS that he wants to remain Prime Minister
Bart De Wever and co still have to untangle the most difficult knots in the list formation. The party leadership will meet for a second time on Wednesday. All eyes are on the stronghold of Antwerp, but the big question remains: what about Jambon? “That is indeed a difficult puzzle,” he said on the sidelines of the nitrogen agreement.
“I have been able to do the highest challenge for two legislatures. Prime Minister is a wonderful job, but I am at the disposal of the party.” Jambon himself seems to be looking forward to a second term. “I was Prime Minister once. Why wouldn’t you want to do it a second time?” Jambon immediately added that there are “still many capable people within the party who could do that and it is up to the chairman to put the team together in the best way.”
Speculations about who will be the next Prime Minister have been circulating for some time. Jambon never wanted to speak out about that. “I am not a career politician, but a team player at the coach’s disposal. I was never a candidate for anything. I have never made any demands internally. I am not a candidate for Prime Minister, but I am not a non-candidate either. We will see how the voter lays out the cards,” he said at the beginning of this year in response to the rumors that Zuhal Demir or Matthias Diependaele could take his place.
