The Lanaken-Maasmechelen police warns Maasmechelen students not to participate in new fights. After all, calls to fight after school on Tuesday are circulating on social media. “We will be recognizable and unrecognizable on site,” the police say.

Last Thursday, two students from De Helix campus in Maasmechelen were attacked after school. They were beaten by two people wearing a pink balaclava, while bystanders filmed everything. The images were shared on social media afterwards. The Lanaken-Maasmechelen police were able to identify two suspects after the fight.

“We take the facts seriously and have started an investigation,” said the Lanaken-Maasmechelen police. “To prevent these types of incidents, we patrol the streets and the internet preventively. As a result, we note that calls are circulating on social media channels for a massive attendance at new fights next Tuesday after school.”

The Lanaken-Maasmechelen police warns students not to participate in these fights. “It goes without saying that we will be on site both recognizable and unrecognizable and will act decisively. Not just Tuesday, but also the days after. Therefore this message to the students: do not linger unnecessarily in the school environment. And to parents: encourage your child to come home immediately after school.”
