An explosion took place in the area of Antwerp’s Groenplaats early Monday morning. This is what police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns confirmed. The front door of a Mexican restaurant was completely destroyed. No one was injured.
The explosion occurred around 1:45 am in Reyndersstraat, two houses next to the Fakkeltheater. The building in question houses Pick & Mex, a Mexican restaurant that opened its doors four years ago. “Immediately after the blow, an inspection was carried out in the area, but that was without results,” says police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns.
No one was injured. The Antwerp police established a safety zone around the scene. “The judicial lab and demining service Dovo arrive on site for trace research and because of their expertise,” Bruyns said.
The police have started an investigation into the facts. ‘The circumstances and the context in which they took place are part of that investigation. All avenues are being investigated, an attack within the drug environment is, as always, one of the avenues,” Bruyns adds.
