Explosion destroys front door of Mexican restaurant in the center of Antwerp (Antwerp)

Unknowns committed an attack on Sunday night in Reyndersstraat, in the center of Antwerp. The front door of a Mexican restaurant was completely destroyed. No one was injured. The police started an investigation.

The explosion occurred around 1:45 am in Reyndersstraat, two buildings next to the famous Fakkeltheater. “Immediately after the blow, a check was carried out in the area, but that was without results,” says police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns.

No one was injured. The Antwerp police established a safety zone around the scene. “The judicial lab and demining service Dovo arrive on site for trace research and because of their expertise,” says Bruyns.

The building in question houses Pick & Mex, a Mexican restaurant that opened its doors four years ago. The police have started an investigation into the facts. “The circumstances and context in which they took place are part of that investigation. All avenues are being investigated, an attack within the drug environment is, as always, one of the avenues,” Bruyns adds.
