Dritan Rexhepi (44), top man of the Albanian mafia and one of the best-known drug barons in the world, has been arrested in Turkey. He is seen as the boss of the super drug cartel ‘Kompanio Bello’. The man was once in prison in Merksplas in our country for violent thefts, but he managed to escape in 2011.

The drug cartel ‘Kompanio Bello’ controls a cocaine trade that extends from Guayaquil, a port town in Ecuador, to major European ports such as Antwerp. The suspect was identified, among other things, by means of a ‘red notice’ from Interpol.
Dritan Rexhepi (44) has been arrested in Istanbul during an operation by the Turkish police. They had his location thanks to the help of the Italian intelligence services. Rexhepi (44) is suspected of murder, kidnapping, drug and weapons trafficking, among other things.
Images from the Turkish police show that jewelry, luxury watches and cash were also seized during the action. The Albanian top criminal was wanted by Italy after he escaped from prison.
‘Half Antwerp citizen’
But the Albanian also escaped from prison in our country. Earlier this year, the ‘Gazet van Antwerpen’ described Dritan Rexhepi as “half an Antwerp resident”. The man was once in Antwerp’s Begijnenstraat prison after he was convicted in 2007 for violent thefts, including a home invasion in the municipality of Beerse. However, in 2011 he managed to escape from Merksplas prison.
