Koen Casteels made a minor comeback at Wolfsburg on Friday evening on the eleventh matchday of the Bundesliga. The goalkeeper had to turn no fewer than four times on the Mönchengladbach field: 4-0.
Tomas Cvancara and Rocco Reitz (ex-STVV) floored Casteels, who had been sidelined for about a month with an inflammation of the abdominal muscles, twice in the first half. The Red Devil made a mistake at 2-0. He wanted to play Aster Vranckx, but shot the ball straight to the opponent. Reitz just had to finish it. And Casteels also didn’t look too good in Franck Honorat’s 3-0, which caused quite a bit of gloating on social media.
Alassane Plea twisted the knife even deeper into the wound after the interruption. Sebastiaan Bornauw and Vranckx also completed the 90 minutes in the losing camp. In the rankings of the German first division, Gladbach jumps over Wolfsburg to a shared ninth place with thirteen points.
There was also bad news for Karel Geraerts in the German second division. Our compatriot lost in front of his own audience with Schalke 04. PhD candidate SV Elversberg won 1-2 in Gelsenkirchen after goals from Paul Stock and Jannik Rochfelt. Kenan Karaman’s tying goal gave Geraerts hope, but the Royal Blues did not get any further.
In the standings, Schalke remains in a poor 15th place with 13 points from 13 games. Geraerts has two wins and three defeats in six matches.
