Two girls from the De Helix secondary school campus in Maasmechelen center were attacked on the street after school on Thursday. Bystanders filmed how two suspects wearing pink balaclavas administered blows to the girls. Two possible suspects have now been identified. One 18-year-old girl from Maasmechelen has already been interrogated.
On Thursday after school, a fight broke out on the sidewalk in front of the school, on the Rijksweg near the traffic lights, in which two students from De Helix received blows from two other girls. The incident was filmed by bystanders who watched. “The perpetrators are not at our school,” says Sabine Vanstraelen, director of De Helix. The victims are still at school. The girls are 17 and 18 years old. “We immediately started providing victim assistance for both girls and their parents. The investigation is now with the police.”
The police in the Lanaken-Maasmechelen zone were able to identify two possible suspects. They were wearing a pink balaclava when they attacked the students on Thursday afternoon. One of the suspects could already be arrested on Thursday. It concerns an 18-year-old girl from Maasmechelen. She was interrogated and provisionally released today. The investigation is still ongoing, so it does not mean that the girl will go free.
