Robin Neyrinck was said goodbye to Kachtem resident in the auditorium of Snoeck funeral home in Izegem on Friday. The 25-year-old young man with a disability drowned in the bath in the De Branding healthcare institution in Kortrijk on October 31. “Spirou, you were a fighter. On October 31, Robin Neyrinck died while taking a bath in the De Branding healthcare facility. A wake was held for him on Wednesday evening, and family and friends said goodbye en masse to him on Friday during the funeral ceremony. The auditorium was full, and several dozen people outside watched the ceremony under a tent on a large screen. It was a service full of beautiful testimonies about Robin. Grandma Lut opened the ceremony with an emotional text. “In 1998 you had your first epilepsy attack. We thought we had lost you then. But time and time again you fought like a lion to stay with us. You were a fighter. That is why it now hurts even more to have to give up in this way.” (Read more below the photo)

Sun child

Together with his sister Anouk, who also has a severe disability, Robin stayed in the Snoezelnest in Aartrijke for years. There, but also to his family, he was known as the Sun Child. “Someone who really liked being outside and really enjoyed the sunlight. “You always smiled, whether it rained or snowed. You were a 25-year-old child, with no self-reliance whatsoever. But still you were happy. Until a caregiver left you in a bath. You were a unique person, you will always remain in our hearts like the sunshine in our house,” said Robin’s half-brother Timmy. (Read more below the photo)

Spirou

Robin and Anouk have now stayed in De Branding for two years. However, the supervisors from Aartrijke have not forgotten them. They had very nice words for Robin. A text from mother Ann, which can also be found on the prayer card, was read at the end of the ceremony. “My dear Spirou, my dear sunflower, my little bird, my boy, my everything. So brave, so combative. So suddenly we have to say goodbye to you, so unexpectedly. Not ready for this at all. You, the eternal warrior, the optimist. My ray of sunshine, my laughing stock. I now let you fly to heaven where you will be the most beautiful star. Forever in our hearts, forever very close. Love you to the moon and back. Sleep tight, my best friend.”
