National coach Gill Swerts also announced his selection of 23 players for the two important European Championship qualifiers of the Young Devils against Scotland (November 17), in Roeselare, and Spain (November 21), in Leuven.
Compared to last month’s selection for the international matches against Malta and Hungary, Aster Vranckx (Wolfsburg) moved up to the A-team. Ignace Van der Brempt (Hamburg) was dropped due to an injury, Jarne Steuckers (STVV) is also no longer there.
Nathan Ngoy (Standard), Cisse Sandra (Excelsior Rotterdam) and Romeo Vermant (Club Brugge) join the core.
The Belgian promises share the lead with Spain in qualifying group B. Both countries have the maximum of nine points after three matches. The Young Devils beat Kazakhstan (1-0), Malta (0-2) and Hungary (0-1) in their previous matches. Scotland follows third in the group with six points, as does Hungary. Kazakhstan and Malta close the row without any points.
The nine group winners, together with the three best runners-up, qualify directly for the final round of the European U21 Championship in 2025 in Slovakia. The other numbers two play jump-offs.
