A shark attacked a woman off the coast of South Australia on Friday. It bit her in the head, among other things. A large group of children watched on the beach. The victim was seriously injured. “It was really terrible,” said a witness.

The woman was with a friend in the water off Port Norlungan, south of Adelaide, when the animal attacked her. The shark bit her on the head and her face was also seriously injured.

The emergency services arrived en masse. The woman was taken to Flinders Medical Center for treatment. Emergency services call the woman’s condition extremely serious and life-threatening.

Swimming lessons for children

Many beachgoers were present on the beach at the time of the attack, including a large group of children. Some of them had a day off, but the other part was there for swimming lessons. “It was really terrible,” testifies a man who lives in the region. “I’ve never seen anything like that in my entire life.”

It is not yet known which type of shark it is. A major search is underway to locate the animal.

This is the fourth shark attack on the South Australian coast this year. Two victims were never found, one woman survived the attack.
