The Belgian national champion seems almost certain of a direct ticket to the group stage of the Champions League in the coming years. With an additional 1,200 points in the coefficient rankings, Belgium is in a slightly stronger position in eighth place.
Club Brugge had the largest contribution with a victory against Lugano (+0.400) and the certainty of European wintering (+0.200). KAA Gent also contributed with a victory in Iceland (+0.400). With the draw against Ferencvaros, Genk added another 0,200 points.
Despite the two defeats of Antwerp in the Champions League and Union in the Europa League, Belgium performed better on the fourth matchday than first pursuer Turkey, but also than Portugal, Scotland, the Netherlands and France.
The top 10 of the UEFA ranking is assured of a direct Champions League ticket. Since Belgium is now closer to number 7 Portugal than to number 9 Turkey, the Belgian teams can rub their hands.
Last year our country was 13th in the rankings. Because our dramatic European season of 2017-2018 (with barely 2,600 points) disappeared, Belgium started the current season in a virtual 10th place.
