A prison guard at Andenne prison who was convicted of drug trafficking by the Liège Court of Appeal earlier this year is still employed. This has been heard from a good source.
The forty-year-old man stood trial with eight other prison officers for a major drug trafficking operation in Andenne prison in 2017 and 2018. At first instance, most of the accused were sentenced to varying prison terms. In June 2023, the Court of Appeal made a final ruling: one of the convicts, the prisoner from Seraing, was given a three-year conditional sentence for “possession and smuggling into prison of unspecified quantities of cannabis and cocaine, in particular by abusing making use of his position as a jailer”.
At the same time as the legal proceedings, a disciplinary procedure was initiated within the prison administration. He decided to transfer the convicted prison guard – after a temporary transfer to Huy prison – to Lantin prison, where he can continue his career.
When asked for a response, the prison administration only wanted to say that they do not communicate about individual cases.
