The Brussels Thurn & Taxis Park temporarily changed its name to the Sidi Boughaba Park on Wednesday. This happened for the 11.11.11 campaign that draws attention to climate injustice.

With this temporary name change, 11.11.11 and the Brussels Capital Region want to make the link between rising temperatures and longer periods of drought in the Sidi Boughaba in Morocco on the one hand, and the capital on the other. Both regions are increasingly confronted with the consequences of the climate crisis.

“The consequences of the climate crisis are painfully tangible all over the world. Also here in Brussels, where we are experiencing more and more periods of great heat. We regularly see a difference of 5 to 6 degrees between city and countryside. Especially at night, it cools down much less quickly in cities,” says State Secretary responsible for international relations Ans Persoons (Vooruit.brussels).

“We need to adapt our cities here to these extreme temperatures and weather conditions and also work together globally to tackle this climate crisis.”
