Jef Willem – better known as DJ Eagl and co-founder of the popular podcast Onbeiscusbaar – has released a T-shirt and a sweater featuring Luc De Vos, Dulle Griet and other Ghent icons, drawn in the style of the popular video game Grand Theft Auto.
Luc De Vos, the Charlatan, the old clock tower of the Sint-Pieters station, the dragon on the Belfry, neuzekes, the statue of Jacob van Artevelde on the Vrijdagmarkt, the Gravensteen, the Dulle Griet, the old postal building and the Graslei. Every resident of Ghent immediately recognizes the icons depicted on the new T-shirt and hooded sweater.
But they undoubtedly also recognize the style in which they are drawn: the house style of Grand Theft Auto, GTA for short, the popular video game that has been around for more than 25 years. “I have been thinking about this idea for a long time,” says Jef Willem, the man behind Mooshie, which produces the sweater and T-shirt. “I’ve been throwing parties in Ghent for years and the artwork is often GTA-inspired. I, like many people, grew up with that. That’s pure nostalgia for me.” (Read more below the photo)

Add to that the fact that Willem is a very proud citizen of Ghent and you end up with the Ghent collection. The DJ included places that are important to himself, but he also did a poll on Instagram so that other Ghent residents had input. “We had to choose, because there was a lot of response, but I am satisfied with the result.”
“Both the drawing and the T-shirts and sweaters themselves. A baker will always say that his own croissants are the best, but I am really happy with the quality of the clothes. They are the Rolls Royce of sweaters and T-shirts. They are honestly made, meticulously finished and sustainable.”
Both the T-shirts and sweaters can be ordered online from this week. The T-shirt costs €34.95, the sweater €74.95. “We work with pre-orders,” says Willem. “We only make what is ordered. This allows us to combat overproduction.”
