DDG stoves and fireplaces in the top five of ‘The Product of Flemish Brabant’: “We are the only specialized company in Europe”

The stoves and fireplaces of the Leuven DDG have made it to the finals of the competition for the title ‘The product Made in Flemish Brabant’. You can vote to give DDG that title via this link until November 15. “Because we do not make other devices, we are the only specialized company in Europe,” says Daan De Glas.

Can you tell us more about your product?

“We make Ecodesign standardized stoves and built-in fireplaces for (well) insulated homes. We have been doing this since 1979 from our studio in Leuven, right next to the famous Studio Manhattan.”

Where did the idea for the stoves and fireplaces come from?

“Daniël De Glas, our late father and founder of the company, came up with the idea during the petroleum crisis of the 1970s. He immediately set up a research department, because he realized that wood – even if it is locally available – is not an obvious fuel. As a result, our products also comply without any problem with the Ecodesign 2022 standard that came into effect last year.”

Why are you so proud of your product?

“We are especially proud of the fact that for more than 44 years we have focused entirely on stoves and built-in fireplaces that are connected to central heating and use wood as fuel. Due to this focus, we do not make other appliances and we are the only specialized company in Europe. We are also able to tailor our products to different types of homes, depending on the capacity of the house.”

Who are your main buyers?

“Our appliances are purchased by home owners who are looking for energy independence and a modern way to heat their entire home. These are often families who are looking for craftsmanship and proven techniques.”

Can you tell us a little more about your company?

“We are a company with around 25 employees, who dedicate themselves to our customers every day. They receive the greatest appreciation from us, because it is not easy to find skilled personnel in the manufacturing industry. From our research department we are committed to has been committed to diversity and guidance for years, which is important to be able to focus on craftsmanship. In this way we take care of our people, who in turn take care of our products and our customers.”

“We have invested heavily in sustainable heating with wood for years. According to outsiders, this is against our better judgement, but as a pioneer we always work in close consultation with research and standardization institutions. That is why we always produce 100 percent locally, sustainably and of high quality, at a competitive price .”
