Het Geel Genot in the top five of ‘The Product of Flemish Brabant’: “We turned our passion into our job”

Traditional lawyer producer Het Geel Genot from Ternat has made it to one of the five finalists for the title of ‘The Product Made in Flemish Brabant’. “We turned our passion into our job,” says Anne Van Elsuwege. You can still vote via this link until November 15.

Tell us a little more about your product.

“We make artisanal eggnog in grandma’s style in five different flavors. We do this from Ternat.”

How did you come up with the idea for this product?

“My passion for chickens and the many eggs that comes with it gave me the idea to look for my grandmother’s recipe again. We also found a sense of nostalgia and started selling the eggnog at markets. and later in our shop with regional products. In the meantime, those chickens are retired, but we have turned our passion into our job.”

Why are you so proud of your lawyer?

“A game of eggnog is pure nostalgia for us, linked to memories from our childhood for both of us. We also work with pure alcohol and high-quality products. We also managed to produce our eggnog in different flavors. In addition to the classic eggnog, we have also amaretto, cappuccino, limoncello and chocolate.”

Who are the buyers of your product?

“We have our customers in our regional products store, but we distribute throughout Belgium in other regional shops, bakers, delicatessens and butchers. Our customers are from all regions and ages.”

Can you tell us a little more about your company?

“We are a family business with four permanent employees. At peak times we also work with flexi workers and students. What started as a hobby became a full-time job and we have had our shop with regional products for six years now, where we sell our lawyer, among other things.”

“Me and my husband Christophe fully pursued our passion and dreams in 2016, but he suddenly passed away in May. I want to win this award for him, to let his story live on. That is why from now on his fingerprint will also be on all products .”
