Glowbus, a producer of handmade fireboxes from Heist-op-den-Berg, is in the top five nominees and has a chance to win the title of ‘Product Made in Mechelen’. The company is using its top product, the Glowbus Dewdrop, to try to win the top prize and proudly stand on the highest podium. “It is a great example of an artisanal product that puts Flanders on the map among a worldwide and demanding exclusive audience,” says Andy Coomans. You can still vote via this link until November 15.

What is the name of the product and what exactly is it?

“Glowbus Dewdrop, a design fire sculpture.”

Where is it produced?

“Handmade in our own studio in Heist-op-den-berg.”

How did you come up with the idea for this product?

“Designer Andreas Ketels drew the first lines of the Dewdrop five years before the original launch of Glowbus.”

Why are you so proud of this product specifically?

“The Dewdrop is a unique design that originated in a small home studio in Laakdal and in just a few years attracted attention from more than 30 countries, including many renowned projects and international celebrities. Above all, it is a statement that there is still a market for craftsmanship, a product with sustainability and a heart for the ecological aspect.”

Who are the main buyers of your product?

“High-end target group: private individuals, projects and hotels. People who are willing to invest in a solid product that will last for several generations.”

What kind of company are you exactly?

“Glowbus specifically releases this collection: consisting of Dewdrop fire sculptures and Growdrop candle holders. The company consists of four people, reinforced with variable workers to manage production. In addition, the company relies on a network of approximately 80 dealers and distributors for international sales.”

“The Dewdrop brings a completely new shape to a market that mainly consists of round fire bowls or square volumes. With its unique shape, the Dewdrop is one of the only ones in its market to give an artistic impulse to an otherwise banalized product ‘the fire basket’. Dewdrop elevates this to an artistic work of art. Sculpture during the day, source of conviviality in the evening.”

Why should readers vote for you?

“Because the Dewdrop is a unique product with a rapid international appeal. It is a good example of an artisanal product that puts Flanders on the map among a global and demanding exclusive audience.”
