At least four cars burned out in Seefhoek on Monday night at three locations in the immediate vicinity of Elisabeth pre-metro station. The police suspect foul play and have started an investigation.
The emergency services were alerted around 3.45 am to a car fire on the corner of Sint-Elisabethstraat and Delinstraat, next to the entrance to the Elisabeth pre-metro station in Seefhoek. At the scene it turned out that three parked cars had caught fire. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the fire brigade could not prevent the cars from burning out. A fourth parked car was also damaged. Malicious intent is assumed and further investigation will reveal how many cars were deliberately set on fire.
At around 6 am, two more car fires were reported in the immediate vicinity of the pre-metro station. In the Gasstraat a car at the front burned out, in the Korte van Sterbeeckstraat it was an attempted arson. There, a gray BMW was slightly damaged at the front.
Police set up a perimeter at all three locations. The forensic lab arrives on site. “Research will have to show whether the fires can be linked to each other and what the context of the facts is,” says police spokesperson Willem Migom. The investigation will reveal, among other things, whether the same working method was used at the three locations. “All avenues are being explored.”
