Two perpetrators threw an explosive at an apartment building on Huffelplein in Loenhout (Wuustwezel) on Monday evening. The door and the glass in the door shattered. No one was injured. Whether this is the work of drug criminals is part of the investigation.

Spokesman Patrick De Smedt of the Border police zone confirms that an explosion took place on Huffelplein in Loenhout around 7 p.m.
“The explosive was thrown at a front door of an apartment building. One of the residents, an elderly lady, needed shelter because she was very shocked. No one was really injured,” says Patrick De Smedt.
The type of explosive used and the possible motive of the perpetrators is part of the judicial investigation launched by the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office. Witnesses saw two suspected perpetrators fleeing the scene. Next to the building where the explosion took place, there is a chip shop where several customers were present at the time of the incident. An investigating judge was appointed, Dovo and Labo arrived at the scene for trace evidence.
Quiet neighborhood
Josée Vinck and Andre Gorissen were eating when the explosion occurred. ‘We live around the corner and at first we thought it was a gas explosion from the chip shop. The bang was extremely loud. We didn’t see anyone running away. This is scary for us. We are not used to such incidents, because this has always been a safe neighborhood.”
Two weeks ago, an attack with an explosive also took place in Gooreind (Wuustwezel). The perpetrators then targeted Niels K., a man who is a suspect in one of the largest Sky ECC drug files that will soon come to court.
