November 11 celebrations in Merchtem, Brussegem and Peizegem

On Saturday, November 11, the end of the First World War, or Armistice, will also be extensively commemorated in Merchtem and its sub-municipalities.

Program Merchtem

10.30 am: Eucharist celebration followed by procession and laying of the floral wreaths at the statue of the unknown soldier on the Krekelendries.

12.00 noon: Reception of veterans and members of the former soldier associations, the Royal Harmony of Saint Cecilia and the members of the children’s town council in the council chamber of the town hall. The mayor gives a speech.

Program Brussegem

9:30 am: Eucharistic celebration

10.30 am: Laying of the floral wreaths at the memorial with the Old Soldiers Circle and the Royal Fanfare De Herleving. The students of De Rinkeling give a presentation. Afterwards, the members of the Former Soldiers’ Circle, the Royal Fanfare De Herleving, the schoolchildren and sympathizers are received in the community rooms.

10 a.m.: Eating sausages in the Lebanon room. Word of welcome by chairman Jos Saerens.

10.50 am: Procession to the peace monument on the Stille Weide.

11 a.m.: Placing the flower wreaths. Rolling of names of fallen Peizegem soldiers and deceased VOSP members. A peace poem is presented by the children of Ten Bos.

2 p.m.: Aperitif in the Lebanon room offered by the municipal council.

2.30 pm: The November 11 menu for registered VOSP members and partners.
