The number 1722 is intended for non-life-threatening cases, such as storm or water damage that requires the fire brigade. This way, the emergency line 112 can be reserved for potentially life-threatening situations.

The easiest way to contact 1722 is via the online counter 1722.be. The request is sent directly to the fire brigade. Calling number 1722 is also possible. The call then goes to the operators of the 112 emergency centers. They first handle urgent 112 calls, and only secondarily the calls to 1722. If your fire zone has its own e-desk, you can also go there.

The Interior advises you to wait patiently for the arrival of the fire brigade team and not to contact them again. “The fire brigade looks at each situation on a case-by-case basis and gives priority to those who may be in mortal danger,” it said. “During a storm or flooding, the fire brigade has to handle many requests at the same time and you have to wait a little longer because the fire brigade first has to help people who are in danger.”

The RMI warned on Monday morning of heavy showers in the west and northwest of the country. Especially in West Flanders, where code yellow applies, a lot of precipitation is expected with 10 to 20 l/m2 until the beginning of this afternoon. With the precipitation that has already fallen yesterday and this night (5-15 l/m2), a total of 35 l/m2 can be reached in some places.

WEATHER FORECAST. Autumn week ahead, changeable today with maximum temperatures of up to 12 degrees

The week starts partly cloudy with local showers. The maximum temperatures are between 7 and 12 degrees with gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour, the RMI reports.

This morning there may be clear skies in some places, but especially on the coast it will be cloudy with thundery showers. In the afternoon there will be more clearance from the west and it will be partly cloudy in all areas with a chance of showers.

Tonight there will be a chance of showers along the coast and in the far southeast of the country. Elsewhere, the chance of showers will decrease and it will become largely dry again. The minimums are between 4 and 9 degrees.

Tuesday will be partly cloudy with some showers locally. The chance of rain is slightly greater in the coastal region and in the Ardennes. The maximum temperatures vary between 7 and 12 degrees. The southwest wind is moderate to quite strong with gusts of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.

Wednesday starts with low clouds in the Ardennes and some clear skies elsewhere. However, the cloud cover increases quite quickly and a new rain zone reaches our country from the west during the afternoon. We achieve maximum temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees. There is a moderate to quite strong wind.

The rain zone will quickly leave our country via the southeast at the start of the day on Thursday. Afterwards it will be partly cloudy with some showers in the coastal region. With a moderate to fairly strong southwest wind, the mercury will not rise higher than 7 to 11 degrees.

On Friday, after the passage of a new rain zone, it will become more unstable with showers. This is especially the case at the sea and in the Ardennes. It remains fresh with maximum temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees.
