Exposed Music is part of Project Kunstwijk and has previously taken place in various other places in Antwerp. It was organized at Kiel in collaboration with cultural meeting center Nova. The spectators walked in groups to four different locations, which were not announced in advance. This includes a garage, Scratch youth center and an artist’s studio. There they always attended a performance by artists who have a connection with Kiel. A magician even made an appearance. Also on the program: Hantrax, Pieter Matthynssens & friends featuring Eurudike de Beul, Rachid Kasmi and Roosbeef with Sun*Sun*Sun String Orchestra.

Mister Willy
Roosbeef (Roos Rebergen) is a singer-songwriter with Dutch roots, but she has lived in Kiel for years. Her concert on Saturday took place in the Mister Willy garage in the Schijfstraat. Performing between cars and piles of tires is probably something completely different? “I played in other strange places a long time ago, such as in a container, a construction site and a swimming pool. But Mister Willy is very special, also because I can now perform with fantastic musicians. And it’s also a different audience than I’m used to. Today I really have to convince people.”

Symbiosis
The programming of this edition of Exposed Music was provided by Gregory Frateur, known from Dez Mona. “I used to organize a series of intimate concerts in the Nova meeting center and have also performed there myself. That created a nice bond, that’s why. It’s a fascinating concept because now I could bring very different musicians together and see how that symbiosis turns out. It is one big surprise and also a challenge, because here everyone comes out of their comfort zone. The fact that almost everyone has a connection with Kiel is also a very chic thing.”

Opera singer
Spectators Eddy (70) and Hilde (73) are an exception to the crowd rule, because they live on the Left Bank. “We saw an announcement in a brochure and decided to take a chance. We didn’t know of any artists listed. And we’re really glad we did it because it’s all fantastic. The performance in the garage, the magician and especially the performance of opera singer Eurudike de Beul with work by Mikos Theodorakis was unbelievably beautiful. It is a song about death and love in the Mauthausen concentration camp. We are very curious about the last concert (that of Rachid Kasmi, ed.), but it probably can’t get any better than the previous one. We will definitely come to the next edition of Exposed Music.”

Very nice choir
There was also a first on the program on Saturday: The choir of ‘t Kiel made its debut in the studio of artist Pablo Piatti on Jan Van Rijswijcklaan, together with Pieter Matthynssens and Eurudike de Beul. Choir members Wim, Liesbeth, Joke and Isabelle are very pleased. “We performed ourselves and therefore could not attend the other concerts, but it was apparently an evening full of variety and surprises. During our performance the audience was very enthusiastic and of course we were too. A really pleasant experience.”
The Choir van ‘t Kiel, conducted by Mieke Segers, affiliated with De Munt, once again gave the best of itself during the family day in CO Nova. “We have only been around for a few months and can always use new members. We rehearse every Tuesday from 7:30 PM to 10 PM in the Nova meeting center. Everyone welcome! Highly recommended because it is great fun to sing together.”
On the family day in CO Nova on Sunday, people could not only attend Het Koor van ‘t Kiel, but also participate in various workshops. There was even a flash mob. (mibl)
