From now on, Evergem residents who love sushi no longer have to go to Wondelgem or Ghent to enjoy typical dishes from Japanese cuisine. After all, sushi bar Art Sushi has been opened at Hoeksken and it is open six out of seven days.
However, the cook and manager is not Japanese, but the Tibetan Luo To Deng. “I learned the tricks of the trade in a Brussels restaurant,” reveals the friendly man. A year ago he also opened a sushi bar on Morekstraat in Wondelgem. “In Brussels I worked for 5 years in the same Japanese restaurant and then for another 18 years in the Ocean Sushi restaurant on Belfortstraat in Ghent. My sushi bar in Wondelgem is doing well and is now run by a friend who is also my business partners.”
Art Sushi is the first restaurant in Evergem that serves Japanese dishes. “For the time being, you can only pick them up or have them delivered to your home. I submitted a request to also serve food in my bar. It has twenty seats, but you will only be able to eat the dishes on site in two months. They are all prepared by myself with fresh ingredients. I also work with Carrefour Market Okay from Evergem and Sleidinge. I deliver fresh sushi there every day, which is kept in a refrigerator. You can just take the maki, nigiri and other sashimi from the racks,” Luo confirms.
As a special promotion, he gives a 10 percent discount for the first 6 months upon collection. An order of at least 25 euros is even delivered to your home for free.
