The suspected driver who committed a hit-and-run accident after a serious accident on Albert I-laan in Koersel reported himself to the police on Wednesday evening. A 24-year-old man from Antwerp was seriously injured in the collision around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. According to the latest information, the man in his twenties is in acute danger to his life.
The local police Beringen/ham/Tessenderlo received a report around 2 am on November 1 of a man who was found next to the road. The seriously injured 24-year-old man was lying next to a parked vehicle on Albert I-laan in Beringen and had to be taken to hospital. The driver was not found. The victim, living in Antwerp, but born and raised in Beringen, is in intensive care where he is fighting for his life.
The preliminary findings of the police investigation show that the victim was walking across the street during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. He was on the cycle path on the right side of the road and was walking in the direction of Koersel center. Around 2 o’clock a car approached that came from the direction of Beringen and drove to Koersel center. “The vehicle then hit the victim on the right side, causing the man to fall next to the parked vehicle,” they explain to the local police. “The exact circumstances of the accident are currently under further investigation.”

There was no immediate breakthrough to the perpetrator of the hit-and-run crime. That is why the Limburg public prosecutor’s office and the local police launched an appeal on Wednesday morning as part of the further investigation for witnesses who had more information about the events of Wednesday morning. The police also asked to be on the lookout for a vehicle that could be damaged on the right side. The driver of the vehicle was urgently requested to report to the police to make a statement.
Finally, in the early evening on Wednesday, the suspected perpetrator of the hit-and-run crash went to the police. It concerns a 42-year-old man from Koersel. He was arrested and will be interrogated.
