There are the bride and groom: Princess Maria Laura gets married | Instagram HLN

--

RoyaltyThe wedding day of Princess Maria Laura (34) and William Isvy (30) has arrived. It will be a well-filled day for the daughter of Princess Astrid (60) and the royal family with many emotional moments. The civil ceremony has already been completed, the church wedding is currently taking place. The princess shines in a custom-made dress by designer Vivienne Westwood, with a train of no less than four meters. We will keep you informed of all updates.

The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula is full for the church wedding ceremony. A total of 500 people have been invited to attend the ceremony in the cathedral. The service started at 2:30 PM and will last 1 hour and 15 minutes. It is the first marriage in the Belgian royal family since the wedding of Prince Amedeo, son of Princess Astrid, in 2014.

For the church wedding, Maria Laura wears a custom dress by designer Vivienne Westwood. “A dress with great historical influence,” says Herve Verhoosel, the couple’s spokesperson. “The corset and neckline are inspired by fashionable women of the 18th century and the fabric that drapes over the shoulders, drapes and falls from the hip is reminiscent of ancient Greek statues.” The princess will wear a four-meter train. “Especially created for Maria Laura, to create the drama and presence needed for the cathedral. The princess will wear the ‘Savoy-Aosta Diamond Tiara’.”

Royal guests

The royal guests are numerous. Princess Astrid and Lorenz are of course present, but also King Filip and Queen Mathilde are present with their children. Like Princess Delphine and her husband Jim O’Hare: Delphine and Jim are joined by their two children Josephine (18) and Oscar (14) and it’s the family’s first public appearance.

Princess Claire, Prince Laurent and their three children also attend the wedding, as do King Albert and Queen Paola, who appear again for the first time in months. This morning during the civil wedding, they had considerable difficulty climbing the stairs of the town hall.

Gucci mini dress

The civil wedding took place in the Brussels town hall. The ceremony lasted about half an hour. Only the intimate circle was present. For the civil wedding, the bride chose a striking outfit. “After the engagement images, in which she wore bottines, this is a new first: Maria Laura is wearing a mini dress,” says royalty expert Joëlle Vanden Houden, who wrote the book ‘Royal Style’ and follows up the event. That dress was from fashion label Gucci.

“She surprised me with it,” says fashion expert Jelka Van Duyse, who specializes in royal styling. Gucci is a favorite of Princess Astrid, so it’s no surprise that her daughter Laura goes shopping there. The dress costs 2,600 euros, but is completely Maria Laura. The princess is the most underrated fashion icon of the Belgian royal family.”

“Princess Maria Laura’s parents, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, were the first of the royal family whose civil ceremony took place in the town hall, so today their daughter has somewhat followed in their footsteps,” said Princess Maria Laura’s spokesperson. Five witnesses were appointed for the wedding ceremony. These are Elisabetta de Belgique, Ferdinand Brunet, Astrid and Joseph von Liechtenstein and Olympia Napoleon-Bonaparte. Elisabetta de Belgique, known as Lili, is the wife of Prince Amedeo, Maria Laura’s eldest brother. After the ceremony, the young couple took a moment to greet the audience that had come to watch them and pose for the photographers in attendance. They also exchanged a kiss on the cheek.

Death of Queen Elizabeth

The princess’s wedding continues, despite the death of the British Queen Elizabeth. However, the couple was very moved by the news. “During the religious celebration on Saturday afternoon, a moment of prayer and reflection will be dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” their spokesman Herve Verhoosel said.

Maria Laura, 34, is the eldest daughter of Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz. She has lived and worked in London for years. Her fiancé William Isvy (30) was born in Paris and is the son of a British mother and a French-Moroccan father. William Isvy spent most of his childhood in London, studying finance in Montreal, Canada. He currently works in London in asset management. The couple share a passion for travel and tennis.
