Chief manager Anja Vlaeymans of bistro Het Looks in Lier received ‘Game of Thrones’ star Iain Glen three times last week. That he entrusted her with ‘I like your food’ makes her very honored.
Scottish actor Iain Glen, Jorah Mormont in the hit TV series ‘Game of Thrones’, is currently in Lier for shooting for the film ‘The Last Front’. On Thursday evening he walked into Het Looks for the first time. It was waitress Yoena who recognized him.
“Of course that gave me the jitters, because that is something special”, the business manager chuckles. “But we didn’t immediately start playing the paparazzi or ‘difficult fan’. We let him enjoy his dinner in peace. He sat there comfortably on his iPad. Maybe he was rehearsing his script.”
How the actor managed to find Het Looks is something Anja has to guess. “I suspect that our quiet location has something to do with it. We are just inside the Vesten and therefore in the center, but we are still fairly quiet. And we have a courtyard garden. I can assume that he prefers that to, for example, the Zimmerplein.”
It must also be that Anja’s dishes pleased him very much, because in the meantime the actor returned twice. “I was working on the mis-en-place in the kitchen on Saturday afternoon when I heard someone yell ‘hello, hello’. It was Iain. He asked if he could come for dinner in the evening.”
On Sunday Iain was there again. “I had just sent out the last plate when it arrived”, Anja laughs. “The actor turns out to be a big fish lover. Because I work with fresh, seasonal products, I work with a limited menu. Since he had already tried all the fish dishes, he ate a pasta with scampi.”
“Because it was the third time he came back, we were like, ‘Now we want a picture’. Fortunately that was no problem. We also had a short conversation. He said that he will be staying in Lier for another week and that he would come over for dinner. By the way, he had already inquired with the waitress about our closing days. Our menu just changed this week, which made him curious. Then he left, in his flip flops and by bike. Very casual. It actually fits perfectly into the framework that we strive for: fine dining in a very ordinary, casual atmosphere. He is a very calm, pleasant person.” (bar)
