TVJolien De Neve (33) is resolutely committed to a new career. From December 1, she will return to school to train to become an inspector. In order to take this step, the participant in ‘Blind Married’ had to say goodbye to her position as a flight attendant. “It was one of the most difficult decisions of my life.”

“After exactly 10 years of fluttering, I am finally standing with my feet on the ground again,” Jolien said on Monday via social media. “Over the past 10 years, I have experienced some fantastic moments, such as husky sledding in Norway, sunbathing in Mexico, visiting Christmas markets in Germany, swimming in Punta Cana, shopping in Miami and eating pizza in Italy,” she continues. “But now it’s time for new, big adventures.”

What will that new, great adventure bring? Police training, she reveals. “I also took part in those selection tests 10 years ago. But then the job as a flight attendant came my way,” she explains. “A year ago I tried those tests again and recently I received the result that I could participate in the training. So I decided to quit as a flight attendant.” Although that was not an easy choice. “It was actually one of the most difficult choices of my life. You are so used to it, you know everything and it is difficult to suddenly choose something else. You sometimes get stuck in the fear: ‘shit, am I going to like that?’ Sometimes you just have to jump and that’s what I did.”

Personal choice

Not only does she say goodbye to her life as a flight attendant, but she also says goodbye to her part-time job as a hostess on hold for her career change. “I am now going back to school and will be taking classes from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a year. So I will have to study a lot and that of course comes first now,” she adds.

However, Jolien also wants to emphasize that her career change is a personal choice. “I get a lot of reactions that people now think that I made this choice for Brecht, but that is not the case. I always said I wouldn’t fly for the rest of my life. I made the decision to participate in the trials a year ago, long before my ‘Blind Married’ adventure.”

‘Blind Married’, every Monday at 8.35 pm on VTM and can also be viewed on VTM GO.
