A British judge on Friday rejected the appeal by the publisher of the tabloid The daily mail had appealed against a lawsuit brought by Prince Harry, singer Elton John and other famous people for illegally gathering information.

Accusing Prince Harry and six other famous Britons Associated newspaper (ANL) alleges that the publisher used illegal methods to obtain information, for example by hiring detectives, tapping telephones or impersonating someone else to obtain medical data.

The publisher of The daily mail, who denies all accusations, had asked the judge at a preliminary hearing in March not to allow the trial to take place, arguing that the charges had been filed “much too late”. Most facts date from the period 1993-2011, some from 2018.

The youngest son of King Charles III launched a legal battle against several tabloids he blames for the death of his mother Diana in a car crash in Paris in 1997 while she was being chased by paparazzi. He blames the newspapers for treating his wife Meghan Markle in the same way.
