An inattentive driver drove an aerial work platform into the railway bridge in Forelstraat on Thursday afternoon. He was unharmed, although traffic was forced to move to one lane for a while.

The maximum height of the railway bridge in Forelstraat is 2.6 meters, but the driver had not seen that. He drove into the bridge with his aerial platform, which was on top of his van.

“He was unharmed,” said police spokesman Matto Langeraert. “An Infrabel team came to check whether the stability of the bridge had not been affected. To give them space, traffic had to move to one lane for a while.”

It is not the first time that the railway bridge has caused problems: in May this year a driver got his truck stuck on it. Then the fire brigade had to arrive on site, but that was not the case here. It is reminiscent of the Spesbroekstraat in Wondelgem, where many buses and vans have become stuck in recent months.
