Appingedam – On Wednesday, April 10, the Weather and Astronomy Foundation is organizing a lecture with the theme “The Hertzsprung-Russell diagram”. The lecture will be given by Prof. Dr. Eline Tolstoy and takes place in Passe Partout at Opwierderweg 57 in Appingedam, starting at 7:30 PM. Entrance is free for donors of the foundation, while interested parties are asked to pay a contribution of €8.

Prof. Dr. Eline Tolstoy, born in the US and raised in Scotland, is a leading astronomer with an impressive track record. She received her PhD from the University of Groningen in 1995 and has since received several prestigious awards for her research into chemical evolution and star populations in dwarf galaxies.

During the lecture, Prof. Dr. Tolstoy explore the foundations of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram. A powerful tool in astronomy, this diagram illustrates the relationship between the brightness and temperature of stars. Understanding this relationship can help us understand the life cycle and evolution of stars, from their spectacular births in stellar nebulae to their dramatic finales as supernovae or white dwarfs.

The lecture promises to be a fascinating journey through the cosmos, where the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram offers us a framework for understanding the complex dance of stars. For more information about the lecture and to register, please visit the website of the Weather and Astronomy Foundation.
