Prince William briefly reflected on the death of his grandmother Elizabeth in a video message. The British prince was originally supposed to go to New York for a meeting with all the winners and finalists of last year’s Earthshot Prize, but had to cancel his visit due to the Queen’s funeral.

William devoted a few words to this in his message. “While sad circumstances prevent me from being with you in person, I’m excited to join you in video form while you’re in New York for the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit,” said William. “During this time of mourning, I take great comfort from your enthusiasm, optimism and dedication to The Earthshot Prize and what we are trying to achieve,” added the Prince of Wales.

According to the prince, protecting the environment was a matter close to Elizabeth’s heart. “I know she would have been delighted to hear about this event.”

The Earthshot Prize was created by William for initiatives that fight against climate change. Last year, the prize, which consists of an amount of 1 million pounds, was awarded for the first time to five initiatives in London. In December, William and his wife Catherine will visit the American city of Boston, where the climate prize will be awarded this year.
