500 guests, an impressive dress and a Porsche from 1961: this was the wedding of Princess Maria Laura | Instagram HLN

It happened. Princess Maria Laura and her Anglo-French William are officially husband and wife. The couple left the Saint Michael and Saint Gudula Cathedral in Brussels just after 4 pm, surrounded by their numerous guests. The two were picked up in a 1961 Porsche 356B Roadster, a model of which only 724 were built. William had specially selected that car and arranged it for his new wife. They were then led away, accompanied by motorcycle police officers from the Brussels local police.

The couple is now preparing for the evening party, which they will celebrate in an intimate circle. For the party, the princess’s dress will be slightly adjusted. For example, the long drag is removed. Further details about the evening party were not disclosed.

500 guests

The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula was full today for the wedding. A total of 500 guests were invited to attend the ceremony in the cathedral. The service started at 2:30 PM and lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes. It was the first marriage within the Belgian royal family since the wedding of Prince Amedeo, son of Princess Astrid, in 2014. When the princess and William gave their word, their spokesperson, Herve Verhoosel, was clearly proud: “Laura and Willem are married! ,” he said on Twitter.

Queen Paola .’s Train

For the church wedding, Maria Laura wore a custom dress by designer Vivienne Westwood. “A dress with great historical influence,” said the spokesperson. “The corset and neckline are inspired by fashionable women of the 18th century and the fabric that drapes over the shoulders, drapes and falls from the hip is reminiscent of ancient Greek statues.” The princess wore a four-meter train. “Especially created for Maria Laura, to create the drama and presence needed for the cathedral. The princess will wear the ‘Savoy-Aosta Diamond Tiara’.”

“That tiara refers to her father’s family,” said fashion expert Jelka Van Duyse, who specializes in royal styling. “The long lace veil belongs to her grandmother Queen Paola, and is therefore a reference to her mother’s family. A very symbolic choice.”

Royal guests

The royal guests were numerous. Princess Astrid and Lorenz were of course present, but also King Filip and Queen Mathilde were there with their four children. Just like Princess Delphine and her husband Jim O’Hare: they were accompanied by their two children Josephine (18) and Oscar (14). It was the family’s first public appearance.

Princess Claire, Prince Laurent and their three children – daughter Louise and twin sons Aymeric and Nicolas – also attended the wedding. Just like King Albert and Queen Paola, who showed themselves for the first time in months. During the civil wedding this morning, they had considerable difficulty climbing the steps of the town hall and entering the cathedral was also visibly difficult. Queen Paola celebrates her 85th birthday on Sunday.

Gucci mini dress

The civil wedding took place this morning in the Brussels city hall. The ceremony lasted about half an hour. Only the intimate circle was present. For the civil wedding, the bride chose a striking outfit. “After the engagement images, in which she wore bottines, this is a new first: Maria Laura is wearing a mini dress,” said royalty expert Joëlle Vanden Houden, who wrote the book ‘Royal Style’ and followed up the event. Maria Laura’s dress was from fashion label Gucci.

“She surprised me with it,” said fashion expert Jelka Van Duyse. Gucci is a favorite of Princess Astrid, so it’s no surprise that her daughter Laura goes shopping there. The dress costs 2,600 euros, but is completely Maria Laura. The princess is the most underrated fashion icon of the Belgian royal family.”

“Princess Maria Laura’s parents, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, were the first of the royal family whose civil ceremony took place in the town hall, so today their daughter has somewhat followed in their footsteps,” said Princess Maria Laura’s spokesperson during the happening. Five witnesses were appointed for the wedding ceremony. They were Elisabetta de Belgique, Ferdinand Brunet, Astrid and Joseph von Liechtenstein and Olympia Napoleon-Bonaparte. Elisabetta de Belgique, known as Lili, is the wife of Prince Amedeo, Maria Laura’s eldest brother. After the ceremony, the young couple took a moment to greet the audience that had come to watch them and pose for the photographers in attendance. They also exchanged a kiss on the cheek.

Death of Queen Elizabeth

The princess’s wedding went on as usual, despite the death of the British Queen Elizabeth. However, the couple was very moved by the news. “During the religious celebration on Saturday afternoon, a moment of prayer and reflection will be dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” their spokesman Herve Verhoosel said.

Maria Laura, 34, is the eldest daughter of Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz. She has lived and worked in London for years. Her fiancé William Isvy (30) was born in Paris and is the son of a British mother and a French-Moroccan father. William Isvy spent most of his childhood in London, studying finance in Montreal, Canada. He currently works in London in asset management. The couple share a passion for travel and tennis.
