Meghan Markle under fire after anecdote about actor: “I am stunned. I never met her”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are having a great time in Montecito, California. This is evident from a major interview with the American magazine The Cut. But a passage from the article caused a stir. Markle tells how during the premiere of the live-action version of The Lion King was taken apart by a South African actor. “He told me, ‘I want you to know that when you got married there was joy in the streets, just like when Mandela was released from prison.’” Striking. Dr John Kani, the only South African to star in the film, says he has never met Markle.

The vicissitudes of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, around their exit The Firm, their move to the US, the associated security vulnerabilities and some unfortunate interviews are probably familiar to you. Meanwhile, the couple is doing better. This is evident from the cover story of The Cut. They have all found their niche in the Montecito. The children are doing well. Prince Harry has even found a local polo team where he can indulge in his uber-British hobby.

It’s going well, is the tenor of the piece. It also zooms out for a while and goes back to Markle’s rather miserable period after the Royal Wedding, the gossip and sometimes downright toxic tabloids. It weighed heavily on her mind and finally even her mental health. “She is aware of what her joining (until the royal family save.) has meant to black Britons, for whom she is a symbol of progress,” writes the author of the piece. And although she tries to avoid the articles about her, she knows that people see her that way. She recalls the premiere of the live-action version of The Lion King. “I had just given birth to Archie, it was a horrible chapter and I was afraid to go outside.” But then she was taken apart by a cast member from South Africa. ‘And he looked at me, he seemed to glow. And he said: I want you to know that when you got married there was joy in the streets, just like when Mandela was released from prison.’” The author of the piece points out that Markle in no way wishes to measure himself with the iconic statesman who, partly through his struggle, brought an end to apartheid.

“I never met Meghan Markle”

The name of the actor in question is not mentioned. The author of the piece does write that it concerns a member of the cast of The Lion King and that it is of South African origin. Only one voice actor meets those criteria: Dr. John Kani who does the voice of Rafiki. What seems? “I’ve never met Meghan Markle,” the actor says to The Daily Mail. “This seems like a faux pas from her. I am the only South African cast member and I was not at the London premiere.” The actor says he is “stunned” at Markle’s strange claim, especially because their royal wedding didn’t exactly stir up much controversy in South Africa.
