‘Chateau Planckaert’ won’t be back on TV until next year, but Stephanie will already be appearing in ‘The House’. Her teenage pregnancy from twenty years ago is of course discussed.
It was once big news in the books: the then 16-year-old Stephanie was expecting a child with her future husband Christopher. In The House she looks back on that time. “I was terribly afraid to tell the news to Mémé Clara,” she says. “I was never afraid of her, but I knew that it would deeply affect her and disappoint her. I lived with guilt for years because I felt I had brought shame on the family.”
But there were also concerns after the birth of daughter Iluna. “I wanted to have my baby with me, but she was sick and still had to get better, so that wasn’t possible. Iluna contracted an infection after her birth and Stephanie also became ill. “I constantly felt enormous guilt. I thought I made her sick because I gave birth prematurely. So much was going through my mind. I was sixteen, so I couldn’t put things into perspective.”
The strong family bond is also discussed. “I have never known anyone who can choose something with as much conviction as dad. He always chooses in our best interest. Because that person can suffer. If he didn’t give up trying to get somewhere, then it didn’t happen,” she says lovingly. “And I am of the same principle. If I want to get somewhere, I have to suffer.”
In the meantime, we also learn that their B&B in Bure has not yet been sold, although the family no longer liked the combination with their French castle. “We wanted to sell it, but we are here so much now that we got the feeling that we wanted to run it again. We dare to change our minds sometimes,” laughs Stephanie.
