‘People’ has chosen the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ every year since 1985. This year, the honor goes to a “Grey’s Anatomy” actor. In 2021, ‘Marvel’ actor Chris Evans was allowed to win this title, but now he is passing the torch to Patrick Dempsey. Patrick played the role of neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd for eleven seasons of Grey’s Anatamoy. And the actor can now also join the long list of ‘Sexiest Men Alive’, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Hemsworth, David Beckham, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Johnny Depp and Idris Elba.
The actor himself was completely shocked by his new title. “I immediately thought: ‘Isn’t this a joke?’” he tells ‘People’, laughing. “I’ve always been the bridesmaid, but ultimately I’m never the bride. After all these years, I didn’t think I would get this title, but it does stroke my ego.”
He also braces himself for his children’s teasing reactions. “They’re going to bully me and come up with all the reasons why I shouldn’t be,” he explains to ‘People’. “But that’s good, it keeps me young.”

Patrick may have hung up his doctor’s costume from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, but this is anything but the end of his career. At the end of this year he will star in the new racing film ‘Ferrari’, in which he plays the Italian racing driver Piero Taruffi. “I had been following the film for years, so I called the director and asked if I could be part of it. And that taught me something important: if you really want something, you have to do it yourself.”
