He was once the ‘golden boy’ of sports reporting, but years ago he disappeared from the screen. How is Tom Coninx doing now? For that you have to go to… Naples.
“Tom divides his time between Brussels and Naples. He is married to Luigia and they have a son together. So he is doing very well.” Father Alain Coninx, former presenter on Eerste, tells this surprising news on Tuesday in Dag Allemaal. Tom and the Italian Luigia got married in 2021. The photos on Luigia’s social media testify to a fairytale wedding. Luigia regularly comes to Belgium with their one and a half year old son. This year they celebrated Easter in Sint-Truiden.

For a while, Coninx was the golden boy of sports reporting. He started his career in the sports editorial department of VRT, but in 2008 a hitch arose: Coninx was sent to Beijing for the Olympic Games, but VRT recalled him early. The problem: he made radio reports for FM Brussels, which would have been against the agreements with the VRT. According to various sources, colleagues at the VRT editor-in-chief also complained about his low productivity at the Games.

In 2011, Coninx switched to VTM, but in 2018 he disappeared from the screen completely. VTM did not extend his contract: according to Tom, a financial issue. After his departure, he launched his own media platform SportNU.be, together with the controversial ex-Open VLD politician Els Ampe. That company no longer exists since last year. Today he owns Caravaggio Media, a video production company.
He also seems to have swam through turbulent waters in his private life. Coninx was already married once, to Olivia de Decker de Brandeken, with whom he has two children: Lola (16) and Arthur (13). Various magazines have reported in the past about affairs and even an alleged child with a one-night stand. Coninx never responded to this. Now he seems to have found his happiness on the picturesque island of Procida, off the coast of Naples.
