Restaurant Bar d’Henri in Antwerp South can once again add a name to the growing list of well-known national and international stars who have come to dine there. Today the plant-based restaurant welcomed none other than ‘Peaky Blinders’ actor Cillian Murphy. Business manager Seger De Maesschalck is over the moon after the Irish actor’s passage: “He said he really liked it.”
Actor Cillian Murphy is best known for his role as Thomas Shelby in the crime series Peaky Blinders and his starring role in the recent blockbuster Oppenheimer. Bee Peaky Blinders he worked for a long time with the Flemish director Tim Mielants. Apparently a fruitful collaboration, because Mielants managed to get him for a role in his new film Small Things Like Thesewhich is partly recorded in our country.

Mielants and Murphy were looking for a vegan place for a working lunch and ended up at Bar d’Henri on the Troonplaats. Chef Hamid Saji serves very tasty plant-based dishes and tapas, including pea or mushroom-based burgers, samosas or grilled corn.
Business manager Seger De Maesschalck had opened the business especially for the Irish actor. “We normally don’t serve lunch,” says De Maesschalck. “But they had warned us in advance, so that was actually a small problem.” Because they had the restaurant to themselves, the atmosphere was very friendly. “Murphy and his managers spontaneously shook hands with me and my boss when they came in.”

“At one point they asked to turn the music down a bit, and I asked if they didn’t think my music was good enough,” Seger says with amusement. “It made the guests laugh. Cillian said there was nothing wrong with the music, it was just a bit too loud.”
When Billie Eilish and her family visited the restaurant last summer, things were a little less leisurely. “That was actually a very stressful event with a lot of security, because the other customers were not allowed to notice their presence,” says Seger.

“Cillian Murphy is a very likeable guy,” Seger reflects. “When they left here, he came back to go to the toilet and then he came to shake our hands and say that he really liked the food.”
