Boy George will play a leading role in the musical in 2024 Moulin Rouge! on Broadway. He told me that The Today Show. The British singer plays the role of Harold Zidler, the owner of the world-famous club.

It will be the first time in twenty years that 62-year-old George has appeared in a musical. He recently completed a tour with his group The Culture Club. It is not yet known when the singer will be in Moulin Rouge! will be visible.

The musical is based on the Oscar-winning 2001 film by director Baz Luhrmann. The story is set around 1900 in Paris, where the young penniless writer Christian (Ewan McGregor) falls hopelessly in love with prostitute Satine (Nicole Kidman). The music of Moulin Rouge! consists of adaptations of existing songs and music from the past 160 years.

The musical version premiered on Broadway in 2019. The Al Hirschfeld Theater was completely renovated for the show, so that visitors feel like they are in the Moulin Rouge club in Paris.

The performance has been attracting packed houses since its opening and was awarded ten Tony Awards, the prestigious American theater awards, including best musical of the year.

Moulin Rouge! will come to the Netherlands in the 2024/2025 season. It is not yet known who will play the leading roles.
