Petrol and diesel prices fall again in Spain

MADRID – For months, fuel prices in Spain have been rising and/or falling and this week both petrol and diesel have again become cheaper, according to the European Union’s Weekly Oil Bulletin. Since 1 April, everyone will immediately receive a 0.20 euro/litre discount at checkout. The prices listed below are without that extra discount that you only get at the time of checkout at the pump. This also concerns AVERAGE prices that may differ per region, province and gas station in Spain.

In the Weekly Oil Bulletin of the European Union, the course of (average) fuel prices within the European Union is kept up to date every week. In Spain, 11,400 gas stations across the country are being looked at for this.

Average cost in Spain right now a liter of petrol (gasolina) 1,708 euros while a liter of diesel (gasóleo) costs 1,876 euros. Since 1 April, the extra discount of 0.20 euros has been added, so that at the checkout, petrol is 1,508 euros and a liter of diesel 1,676 euros.

ATTENTION: Since Friday April 1, and until December 31, 2022, fuel prices are cheaper because the Spanish government gives 0.20 euros per liter discount at the pump. This discount is immediately deducted from the price to be paid after refueling (but is not visible on the price indication on the pump itself).

With these prices it currently costs to fill a 55-litre tank of petrol 93.94 euros. Currently, filling a 55-litre tank of diesel 103.18 euros. PLEASE NOTE: If we deduct the 0.20 euros per liter discount, filling a 55-litre tank of petrol at the pump costs 82.94 euros and a 55-litre tank of diesel costs 92.18 euros.

These are average prices that may be different in the Spanish regions, provinces and municipalities. The lower level of final fuel prices in Spain compared to neighboring countries is due to the fact that, despite VAT increases, higher taxes and biodiesel levies, Spain generally still has a lower tax burden than the average in the European Union .

Spain The Netherlands Belgium France EU Euro countries
Petrol 95 1,708 1,945 1.675 1,554 1,760 1,833
Diesel 1,876 1,979 1,934 1,696 1,836 1,874
NOTE: These are AVERAGE prices that do not always correspond to the prices at the gas stations

The lower level of final fuel prices in Spain compared to neighboring countries is due to the fact that, despite VAT increases, higher taxes and biodiesel levies, Spain generally still has a lower tax burden than the average in the European Union . In Spain, at petrol 43% and with diesel 38% tax levied while this in Netherlands for petrol 53% and for diesel 42% is and in Belgium 43% for petrol and 41% for diesel is.

NOTE: These are average prices in Spain as stated in the Weekly Oil Bulletin. At the gas station in Spain the prices are usually different because this depends entirely on where you fill up, in which region, city or on which island (Canary Islands are usually cheaper).
