Rumor: Google may be active on the XRP Ledger

Despite the ongoing lawsuit with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ripple continues to actively develop. Recently, rumors have emerged that Google is showing interest in Ripple’s XRP Ledger (XRPL) by possibly running nodes of this network.

Speculations About Google’s Role in the XRP Ledger

The news is derived from a screenshot https://twitter.com/edward_farina/status/1720100529370464655 by Edo Farina on X, the former Twitter. It shows IP addresses of computers running nodes on the XRP Ledger, and one of these IP addresses is said to be hosted by Google. In addition, Google LLC is mentioned as an internet service provider (ISP). The data shows that Google may be operating XRPL nodes, similar to how Microsoft accomplishes this through its Azure Blockchain as a Service (BaaS).

The possible involvement of a tech giant like Google could significantly strengthen confidence in Ripple’s XRP and its associated ledger. This would potentially spark more interest from investors and users, and could pave the way for wider adoption of XRP within the business world, especially if companies and developers decide to get behind the technologies that a powerhouse like Google would use.

However, there is skepticism within the XRP community regarding the explanation of the screenshot shared by Farina. The ambiguity lies mainly in whether Google itself is responsible for running the XRPL nodes, or whether individuals or other entities use Google Cloud’s infrastructure for this purpose. An XRPL representative noted that the IP address in question likely belongs to a Google Cloud service, which opens the possibility that it could in fact be a Google Cloud customer managing the nodes, and not Google itself.

Ripple forms partnership with Georgia

Although it has not yet been confirmed whether Google is actually responsible for managing XRP Ledger nodes, Ripple continues its strategic expansion. In a recent development, the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has selected Ripple for the pilot project of their digital currency, the digital Lari.

Ripple was chosen from a list of nine candidates based on their proven ability to support digital financial structures. The NBG plans to test the digital Lari in a controlled environment using the Ripple platform. This pilot will provide insight into the operation and possible benefits of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).
