VAs of September 30, Google will no longer be able to offer its service to book flights directly from the search engine in Europe.

Google Flight, which has been present in the travel industry since 2010 following the acquisition of ITA software, will discontinue its direct flight booking service in Europe on September 30. The service will also not be available in the United States from March 2023.

The search engine offers the possibility to book plane tickets without having to pay a commission to Google. Google gives as reason for this decision the steady reduction of the use of Google Flight by the internet users.

The flight booking service allows Google to centralize information and generate traffic. But after the European Union’s introduction of the Digital Markets Act, which breaks the omnipotence of major platforms, Google would come under the sights of antitrust investigations.

The reason for the research is to highlight the results of Google’s vertical comparators. In July 2021, Google was asked to list fees and taxes in its price comparator.
