Limmen – Marleen Bos has presented her first book: ‘Connected by nature’. In this book, the Limmen-based photographer has created a visual adventure, with images of special moments in nature. They all offer surprisingly new ways of looking at the world and each photo exudes its own atmosphere. She hopes that the book will make people more aware of the connection we have with everything around us.

Marleen uses her photos as a mirror for life. She shows what nature gives us when we are consciously present. She explains: “We regularly forget the deep bond that humanity has with nature. Yet deep in our souls there is an innate desire to stay in touch with the beauty and serenity that nature offers us. Nature has the extraordinary power to stimulate our senses, stir up our feelings or calm down.” She presented the first copy of the book at the Deining beach pavilion to Brigitte van Bennekom from the squirrel shelter in Lunteren.

Squirrels

Marleen has had a great love for squirrels for years: “As a child we sometimes went to Camping Bakkum in the winter and I remember that the squirrels would just run to you there. In 2010 I took a masterclass with the famous nature photographer Jim Brandenburg at his Ravenwood estate in the American state of Minnesota. I was also able to photograph many squirrels there.” In her own country, Marleen then looked for people who were actively involved in caring for these animals. This is how she came into contact with Brigitte van Bennekom, who takes care of squirrels in her own backyard in Lunteren with the help of her husband and volunteers.

Marleen: “A few weeks ago I visited them and saw what good work they do; very fun to experience! My intention is to go back in the spring – when the young squirrels are brought back in – and help them financially and online.” The book ‘Connected by nature’ (with foreword by Jim Brandenburg) is on the shelves at the Laan bookstore , but can also be ordered via www.marleenbos.nl and at any bookstore (ISBN: 9789090372952).
