The complex will be built on a plot opposite the station that has been vacant since the Metterswane office building was demolished in 2019. The New Metterswane will be a stepped building of 23 floors with 276 apartments, a two-storey underground parking garage, offices, restaurants and a supermarket.
The apartments are divided into social rental, mid-range rental (170 homes together) and owner-occupied apartments (106). Talis and DW Property will be responsible for the rental of the apartments. KondorWessels Projecten, Talis and DW Property will soon sign an agreement for this.
The building will have green roofs and be equipped with a sustainable energy system. Construction is scheduled to start at the end of this year, with delivery expected in the last quarter of 2026.
More new construction projects
More new construction projects are planned on the center side of Nijmegen station. For example, a new building with probably homes, offices and catering establishments should also be built on the site of a former Chinese restaurant, directly behind De Nieuwe Metterswane.
The discussions between the land owner and the municipality are still in an exploratory phase, reports the municipality of Nijmegen. There are also plans for homes at the Randstad and Talis locations on the Karel Keizerplein further away.
The municipality also wants to renovate Stationsplein itself, including an expansion of the bus station and a new bicycle shed with 7,000 spaces. On the other side of the station, a new entrance and extra platform will be built, as well as a new residential complex.
