German emergency services had to deploy en masse to Frankfurt airport on Thursday. As many as 70 occupants of the same plane had become ill during the flight.

When a Condor flight landed in Frankfurt on Thursday afternoon around 5:30 p.m. a few hours after departure from Mauritius, several ambulances were already waiting on the airport tarmac. The flight crew had already informed air traffic controllers that dozens of passengers had become ill during the flight. 70 of the total 290 passengers showed symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed the incident to the German newspaper Image and stated that only passengers were affected. The crew had no trouble. “But the crew is educated and trained for these types of special situations,” it said. “The normal route was completed and the aircraft was landed safely.”

Condor has also started an investigation to determine the cause of the cases. “However, we currently have no idea what the problem may have been. The food? We don’t speculate.”
