Polish studio People Can Fly worked for a few years on a brand new game, a co-op action RPG codenamed Project Dagger. Unfortunately, the studio has now announced that the project will now be scrapped altogether.

The plug has been pulled on Project Dagger by People Can Fly. The commercial potential of the game is cited as the reason. Apparently People Can Fly wasn’t convinced it would be a success. That is why it was decided to scrap the project and create something else. This project went into full production after the last DLC for Outriders. In the year 2022, approximately 50 employees were developing Project Dagger. The plan was to self-publish this game, which was supposed to be a new IP. Furthermore, People can Fly planned to do the marketing themselves and release the game in the year 2025. These plans are no longer going ahead. It is estimated that this project has cost around $17 to $20 million so far, an amount that has no return on investment as the game has been trashed.

People Can Fly was already experiencing financial problems before the cancellation of Project Dagger. Last January, the Polish studio announced that about 30 people would be thrown out due to budget cuts. The fear is that more rounds of layoffs could take place now that a major project has been canceled.

People Can Fly is a studio mainly known for action-packed shooters. The studio has been responsible for Bulletstorm, Bulletstorm VR, Gears of War: Judgment and the sci-fi co-op shooter Outriders.
