Mark Cavendish full of praise for team after second season victory: “Many of these teammates also ride the Tour”

Mark Cavendish has taken his second victory of 2024. After winning a stage in the Tour Colombia in early February, he now raced to a stage victory in the Tour of Hungary. “I am very happy with this,” he said in the flash interview afterwards.

“Yesterday the lead-out did not go well,” said Cavendish, who did not get further than sixth place in the opening stage. “I mean, it was super good. Everyone gave 100 percent yesterday. But we arrived a little early. We talked about that so we could adjust it today. This was a completely different arrival. There were some turns that made it technical.”

“We executed it exactly as we wanted,” said the 38-year-old sprinter, who was full of praise for his teammates. “Yevgeniy Gidich looked after us all day, so that we didn’t ride in the wind for a moment. He already did that yesterday. Michele Gazzoli was there on the climb. Gleb Syritsa, a great guy, protected us perfectly. I was sitting so easily until the last kilometers. Then came Cees (Bol, ed.) and Morkie (Michael Morkov, ed.) in the last kilometer. They used the other teams and the speed we already had to get as close to the finish as possible. They did so well.”

Cavendish then emphasized again how happy he was. “I came here after a good training block and with a team that largely consists of riders who will also participate in the Tour de France. That is very good.”
